CrossWord2o2o
Brief Description
CrossWord is a live dance show which is adapted to be performed outdoors for healthcare and care home settings. The show can be performed in courtyards, car parks, garden, anywhere it can be viewed from inside.
CrossWord is a 20 minutes dance show which looks at the idea of language and isolation. How can we connect to a language we don’t understand, through its sounds and tones rather than its meaning and how can four isolated dancers can still connect with their movement through a distance.
Practicalities
The performance is free thanks to funding from Arts Council Wales
Performance duration 20 - 25 mins
Rehearsals and performances will take place taking care of social distancing rules, we can provide more details on our processes.
We don’t need to enter your building, we just need access to the outdoor space for performance
We need a 8 x 8 m space to perform, but we can adapt the performance to your space, for example performing in a long alley way that is 3m x 8m. Feel free to talk to us about your spaces.
We will bring a sound system

Background
CrossWord was created in June 2016 with the idea to create a choreography which was inspired or made use of the them of "voice". I got curious on the emotional impact that a dialogue of voices can have on people, adding the restriction to use a language that the dancers didn't understand. By working with British dancers I had the opportunity to use Italian dialogues.
My aim was to create a solo for each dancer that worked on its own, both emotionally and choreographically, and find a complementary aspect when by the end all the solos are danced simultaneously in the space, creating an intricately woven visual scene. The result was a deeply emotional and human response and a textured physical language.
During the performance the audience will be able to gradually piece together the work as it unfolds in front of them, solo by solo, each complimenting the other to create a rapturous, rhythmical group finale.
